Recent claims from leaker Kepler_L2 on X indicate that Sony might maintain a pricing advantage for its next-generation console. The report suggests that the bill of materials for the PlayStation 6 could be as much as $200 lower than the cost associated with the Xbox Helix.
The Xbox Helix is currently projected to carry a cost between $1,200 and $1,800. Regarding the PlayStation 6, recent reports estimate its bill of materials cost at approximately $680, which contrasts with earlier expectations from late 2025 that placed the retail price at around $600.
Performance specifications remain a point of comparison, with the Xbox Helix reportedly targeting 56 TFLOPS while the PlayStation 6 is slated for 40 TFLOPS. It remains uncertain how these hardware differences will impact actual in-game performance for consumers.
Future pricing strategies may shift, as Hideaki Nishino noted in a June financial report that Sony does not intend to sell hardware at significant losses. This stance suggests a departure from historical models where console prices were heavily subsidized by future software sales.
