NBA 2K27 has officially overtaken Resident Evil: Requiem to claim the top spot as the best-selling video game of 2026 in the United States. While Resident Evil: Requiem maintained the leading position for several months, it has now been displaced by the basketball title.
Market analyst Mat Piscatella reported these figures based on sales data collected from the beginning of January through October 3. Despite its year-to-date success, NBA 2K27 was outperformed during the month of September by Marvel's Wolverine on PlayStation 5.
The current top five best-selling games of the year include NBA 2K27, Resident Evil: Requiem, 007 First Light, MLB: The Show 26, and Crimson Desert. Other notable titles performing well include Forza Horizon 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Regarding hardware, the PlayStation 5 led sales in September, achieving a 22% increase in units compared to the previous year. Despite these individual successes, Piscatella noted that overall consumer spending on video games declined by 2% compared to 2025.
