Key information

Magic: The Gathering is expanding its Universes Beyond collection with a new Star Trek set, drawing from the franchise's 60-year history. The release features iconic episodes reimagined as Sagas, a card type chosen by senior editor Matt Tabak for its ability to represent episodic story arcs through distinct chapters.

The set includes two Sagas based on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Inner Light, a green-white card, depicts Picard’s experience living a lifetime on Kataan, featuring mechanics that represent reanimating the planet's people and the knowledge gained. All Good Things…, a green-blue card, mirrors the series finale by allowing players to exile cards over three turns to synchronize timelines, rewarding them with life gain if the exiled cards share a type.

Departing from traditional Magic art, these Sagas utilize bold graphic styles inspired by stage playbills and posters. Senior narrative designer Crystal Frasier noted this approach was necessary to capture the complex character growth and twists inherent in the franchise, blending multiple narrative elements into a single iconic visual.

The set also introduces various creatures and ships, including the Tenacious Drone, the blue artifact creature Interstellar Effigy, and the 4/3 bear Pet Sehlat. Additional cards represent factions like the Cardassian Obsidian Order and ships from Star Trek: Enterprise. The Star Trek Universes Beyond set is scheduled for release on Nov. 13.
