The developer Digital Sun has officially canceled the public demo for its upcoming title ReVamp during the Steam Next Fest. The studio cited concerns regarding the potential for artificial intelligence to be used to clone their game before its official release.

In ReVamp, players manage Dracula and construct traps to defend a castle against invading heroes. Because the game is still months away from its full launch, the studio determined that releasing a public demo to thousands of users posed an unacceptable risk of unauthorized replication.

The decision follows reports of other independent games being copied and published by third parties. Developer Tim Ruswick demonstrated the feasibility of this threat by using the Claude AI model to create versions of the game Polyfury in approximately 30 minutes, highlighting how easily ideas can be misappropriated.

Digital Sun will instead host a closed test via Discord starting October 29, with plans for a broader public release in January. This trend presents a dilemma for developers, as limiting visibility to prevent theft may hinder their ability to attract players during major promotional events like the Steam Next Fest.
