According to market research firm Circana, the PlayStation 5 action-adventure title Marvel's Wolverine, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and developed by Insomniac Games, secured the number one spot in the United States video game sales rankings for September 2026.
Circana analyst Mat Piscatella noted that the game achieved the highest first-month dollar-based sales for a Sony-published title since Helldivers 2, which launched in February 2024. Despite releasing in mid-September, the title managed to lead the monthly charts.
Analysts highlight key differences between the two titles: Helldivers 2 launched simultaneously on PS5 and PC at a 40 dollar price point, whereas Marvel's Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive priced at 70 dollars. Consequently, Helldivers 2 may have outperformed the new release in total units sold.
The strong performance of Marvel's Wolverine is credited with helping boost PS5 hardware sales, which saw a 43 percent increase in dollar-based revenue and a 22 percent rise in units compared to the previous year. The game is currently available for the PlayStation 5 platform.
