Director Kitao Sakurai recently explained his creative direction for the new Street Fighter movie, emphasizing a gonzo style over a gritty, grounded approach. Sakurai, alongside producer Cale Boyter at Legendary, aimed to capture the inherent absurdity and silliness found within the franchise's world and characters.

Sakurai noted that his background working on The Eric Andre Show influenced his filmmaking philosophy. He prioritizes keeping every minute of the film interesting rather than strictly hilarious, allowing for ridiculous elements that might not make sense narratively but contribute to the overall energy of the project.

The production also featured cameos from the Philippou brothers, the original directors attached to the project. Sakurai personally invited the Australian duo to appear as street fighters to demonstrate that there is no animosity between the filmmakers and that they remain part of the same creative family.

Released on October 16, the film features a cast including Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, and Cody Rhodes. While the movie has grossed over $55 million worldwide, the performance is currently described as not so great.
