Nvidia has launched the GeForce 621.01 WHQL driver, which introduces Advanced Shader Delivery support for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Gears of War: E-Day. This technology, developed by Microsoft, aims to eliminate in-game shader compilation wait times by offloading the process to the cloud.
Advanced Shader Delivery functions by distributing precompiled shader databases during the game download process. This requires users to download titles via the Xbox PC app to receive the specific database tailored to their hardware, ensuring a seamless experience for supported games purchased through the Microsoft Store.
Journalist Sebastian Castellanos reported that the new driver resulted in significantly lower system RAM usage. Specifically, he noted that Gears of War: E-Day saw a reduction of approximately 7-8 GB in RAM usage, though he observed that CPU utilization remains relatively high.
This feature is now available for all Nvidia RTX GPUs, ranging from the 20-series to the 50-series. Nvidia clarified that the technology cannot be applied to every game, as modern titles utilize thousands of complex shaders that typically require local compilation to match specific GPU and driver configurations.
