Battlefield Studios has launched a new limited-time collaboration with Dead Space for Battlefield 6 as part of Season 5. This event, titled Incursión de Efigie, features paid cosmetic packs and a battle pass with both free and premium tiers. The reviewer notes that this experience is a substantial improvement over the previous Dead Space-themed mode in Battlefield 2042.
The mode utilizes an objective-based structure on the new Area 51 map, where players must destroy specific targets by planting and defending bombs. The narrative premise involves the OTAN forces addressing a disturbance caused by Pax Armata to an alien Effigy. Players act as attackers against AI-controlled soldiers, who are categorized into melee, grenadier, and elite archetypes.
While the mode lacks actual Necromorphs, it incorporates a hallucination mechanic inspired by Dead Space. When players are near an Effigy, their reality is altered, causing allies and enemies to appear as dark, Necromorph-like visions. The reviewer finds distinguishing enemies by their subtle yellow or gold tones difficult during intense combat, especially when enemies flank from the rear.
Despite enjoying the mode, the reviewer criticizes its repetitive nature, noting a lack of significant random events, world bosses, or environmental changes. They suggest that Battlefield Studios should consider making the mode permanent, adding more variety, and integrating it into the Portal community tools to improve future iterations.
