Xbox is introducing a pay-as-you-go model for its cloud gaming services starting in November. This shift follows a period of significant organizational changes under CEO Asha Sharma, which included staff reductions and further planned layoffs.

The company is moving away from unlimited cloud access for Game Pass subscribers by implementing monthly time limits. Ultimate subscribers will receive 15 hours, Premium members get 10 hours, and Essential users are limited to five hours of cloud play per month.

Users can purchase additional playtime packs once their allotted time expires. Options include a $3.99 pack for 10 hours, a $7.99 pack for 25 hours, and an $11.99 pack for 50 hours. These purchased hours are tied to the user's account and do not expire at the end of the month.

Xbox is also testing an ad-supported free tier, currently available only to Xbox Insiders. This system utilizes technology designed to determine optimal moments to interrupt gameplay for advertisements.
