Marvel’s Wolverine has achieved significant commercial success, debuting as the best-selling game of September according to Circana data. The title secured the highest launch-month dollar sales for any Sony-published game since February 2024’s Helldivers 2, despite facing lukewarm player reception and mixed reviews.
The game outperformed several new releases in a crowded market, including Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Mat Piscatella of Circana noted that the title debuted as the 11th best-selling game of 2026 overall, successfully breaking the live-service dominance on PlayStation charts by ranking seventh in weekly active users.
While Sony has not provided official sales figures, estimates indicate the game reached 1.9 million units sold by September 18. Physical copies accounted for 799,000 of those units. Despite these figures, the game has not yet entered the top 10 best-selling games of 2026 in the United States.
The release coincided with a 43% increase in PlayStation 5 hardware dollar sales, helping Sony reach its highest hardware dollar share since May 2025. This growth is attributed in part to the current higher cost of the console compared to the previous year, as the game remains exclusive to the single platform.
