A source speaking to IGN reports that the television series based on the Mass Effect franchise remains in active development at Prime Video. This update follows the recent closure of BioWare and the cancellation of the next entry in the video game series.
Key creative personnel attached to the project are reportedly still signed on. This group includes executive producer Mike Gamble, who was impacted by the layoffs at BioWare. Previous reports from 2025 identified Doug Jung as the showrunner, with Daniel Casey serving as a writer.
The production was originally announced in 2021. Prime Video continues to expand its portfolio of gaming adaptations, which currently includes projects based on Tomb Raider and God of War, alongside the established Fallout series.
These organizational changes at EA occurred following the company's transition to private ownership via a sale to Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, alongside Affinity Partners and Silver Lake. EA aimed for $700 million in cost savings to manage debt, resulting in widespread layoffs and the cancellation of other titles, such as a new The Sims game.
