Insomniac's action-adventure title Marvel's Wolverine achieved the top spot for US video game sales during September. Despite a mid-month release, the game outperformed other new entries to become the best-selling title for the period.
Market analysis firm Circana reported that the game generated the highest launch month dollar sales for a Sony-published title since Helldivers 2 debuted in February 2024. While Helldivers 2 launched on both PC and PlayStation 5 at a $40 price point, Marvel's Wolverine is a $70 PlayStation 5 exclusive, meaning the latter achieved its revenue milestone with fewer units sold.
The release of Marvel's Wolverine coincided with a 43 percent increase in PlayStation 5 dollar sales compared to the same period last year. The console led the market in both unit and dollar sales for September, while Xbox unit sales reached their lowest point for any September on record.
September proved to be a crowded release window, featuring eight new titles in the top-ten list, including The Blood of Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Meanwhile, NBA 2K27 became the best-selling game of the year to date, though analysts expect this record to be challenged by the upcoming launch of GTA 6.
