A researcher identified as Pepsipu has demonstrated a new jailbreak method for the Nintendo Switch 2, enabling the execution of unofficial software on the console. This development, detailed on October 22, 2026, marks an early attempt to bypass system restrictions.
The method, dubbed ns2jb, utilizes the Codex artificial intelligence tool to identify and analyze security vulnerabilities. The exploit specifically targets flaws within SmileBASIC 4, a programming application available via the eShop, and remains effective on firmware version 23.0.1.
Pepsipu showcased the exploit by modifying Mario Kart World to include unofficial characters like Peter Griffin and Hatsune Miku. While the jailbreak allows for homebrew execution, mod installation, and save file management, it does not currently support piracy or a full system unlock.
The current implementation is not permanent and requires reactivation upon every console reboot. Nintendo has yet to issue an official statement regarding the vulnerability, though the company may address the security flaw in a future system update.
