Marvel's Wolverine secured the top spot in US game sales for September, marking the strongest monthly dollar performance for a Sony-published release since Helldivers 2. The title successfully outperformed EA Sports FC 27 and pushed NBA 2K27 into the second position.
PlayStation 5 hardware maintained strong momentum, leading the market in both unit and dollar sales. According to Circana data, PS5 spending climbed 43% year over year, while unit sales grew 22%, granting Sony its highest monthly hardware dollar share since May 2025.
The broader hardware landscape saw total spending increase 12% to $362 million. However, this growth was tempered by declines elsewhere, as Xbox Series X|S unit sales fell 27% to a record September low, and Nintendo Switch 2 unit sales dropped 14%.
Total content spending across the industry dipped 2% to $4.2 billion, largely driven by a 14% decrease in mobile revenue. Conversely, console content spending rose 8% and PC spending saw a 27% increase during the period spanning August 30 to October 3, 2026.
