The upcoming Harry Potter television series is positioned to become one of HBO's most expensive productions to date. Financial documents from the British company Plum Jam Productions indicate that the first season is estimated to cost approximately 201 million dollars.

This budget translates to 25.2 million dollars per episode, significantly higher than the 15 million dollars per episode spent on the final season of Game of Thrones. The high initial expenditure is largely attributed to constructing complex sets at Warner Bros. studios in Leavesden, which are intended to support all seven planned seasons.

The first season, which adapts the book The Philosopher's Stone, is scheduled to premiere on December 25 on HBO Max and Paramount+. The series has already been renewed for a second season, with filming for The Chamber of Secrets set to begin in the autumn.

The production features a new lead trio consisting of Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton. The cast also includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
