Following the recent acquisition of Electronic Arts by the Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, the publisher has officially confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront 3 is currently in active development. This announcement arrives alongside significant corporate restructuring, including a reduction of the global workforce by 3% and the closure of BioWare.

The upcoming title will be a collaborative effort between EA's Respawn and DICE studios. While DICE has historically managed modern iterations of the franchise, the inclusion of Respawn brings expertise from their work on Apex Legends. The project is being developed for Lucasfilm Games, effectively dismissing speculation that Bungie would lead the title's production.

The previous entry, Star Wars Battlefront 2, launched nearly a decade ago and featured a campaign centered on Iden Versio alongside large-scale multiplayer battles spanning multiple eras. While the game initially faced criticism for pay-to-win mechanics and restricted customization options, it eventually saw a resurgence in player interest following consistent updates and the success of Andor season 2.

Beyond this new project, EA continues to focus on live-service shooters, with plans for future Battlefield titles and the development of Jedi 3. Whether the new Battlefront installment will incorporate newer eras like The High Republic or Dawn of the Jedi remains to be seen as development progresses.
