Key information
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature hundreds of explorable interiors, moving away from the static facades that characterized previous entries. While not every building in the game will be accessible, the developer emphasizes a shift toward a more organic and dense architectural environment. This design choice aims to replace the invisible walls of the past with fluid transitions between outdoor and indoor spaces.
The integration of these interiors significantly impacts gameplay mechanics, particularly regarding criminal activities and police encounters. Players can now utilize buildings for tactical evasion, such as splitting up to break lines of sight from an AI-driven police force. Furthermore, the game introduces a physical money system where cash is vulnerable, requiring players to secure their earnings in ATMs found within these accessible locations.
Rob Nelson, a development lead at Rockstar North, highlighted that these spaces facilitate new cooperative dynamics for the protagonists, Jason and Lucia. During a demonstration, the characters were shown engaging in physical activities like gym workouts, illustrating that these environments serve as more than just passive backdrops. Access to certain locations may be subject to dynamic opening hours based on the game's day-night cycle.
This focus on architectural density is intended to create a more interactive version of the state of Leonida. The game is currently scheduled for release on November 19.
