Capcom has officially disclosed a significant security breach involving its online membership service. The incident, which occurred on October 19, impacted more than 11 million customer accounts globally.
The unauthorized access compromised 11.7 million email address records. Exposed data includes account creation dates, last login timestamps, login frequencies, and client IP addresses. Additionally, 43 accounts had personal details like birth dates and nicknames accessed, while 196 accounts experienced unauthorized password changes.
Despite the breach, the company confirmed that customer-created passwords and credit card information remained secure. Capcom stated that it has already reset the passwords for the affected accounts and does not anticipate any impact on its video game titles.
Capcom has notified the Osaka Prefectural Police and Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission regarding the event. The developer warned users to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts, advising customers to avoid clicking suspicious links or opening attachments in emails.
