The Japanese travel simulation game World Quest has officially announced the immediate termination of its services. This decision follows the discovery of a critical security vulnerability within the PHP programming language, which the game's aging system architecture is unable to address effectively.

The game allowed players to explore over 100 countries and 1,000 cities using various modes of transportation like planes, trains, and buses. Utilizing OpenStreetMap data, users could visit landmarks, purchase souvenirs, and interact with local residents to learn about different cultures.

The crisis originated from a PHP update released on October 21 at night. This patch addressed two emergency-level vulnerabilities that permitted unauthorized remote code execution. While many services initiated emergency maintenance to apply the new versions, the developers of World Quest determined their environment could not be updated.

To protect user personal information, the team chose to shut down the game entirely rather than risk security breaches. The operators apologized for the sudden closure and indicated that a final farewell message would be posted on their official website in the future.
