AMD has publicly confirmed its ongoing collaboration with Microsoft to develop FSR Diamond, a specialized technology designed for the upcoming Xbox console known as Project Helix. This announcement coincided with the introduction of AMD FSR 4.1, highlighting the hardware manufacturer's role in powering the next generation of Microsoft's gaming ecosystem.

FSR Diamond functions as an evolution of FidelityFX Super Resolution, integrated natively into the console and its development kits. The technology utilizes artificial intelligence and new hardware architectures to enhance texture upscaling, frame generation, and reconstruction techniques. These advancements aim to improve performance and visual quality regarding lighting, ray tracing, and path tracing.

Scott Van Vliet, Director of Technology at Xbox, emphasized that the platform is designed to reach players globally while supporting developers. The console will feature a custom AMD APU, continuing a partnership spanning over two decades that has previously produced technologies like AutoSR and Advanced Shader Delivery.

Project Helix is expected to launch in 2028, with reports from Fortune suggesting a potential price range between 1200 and 1800 dollars. This cost variance is attributed to the fluctuating prices of high-end components such as RAM. The system is intended to function as both a console and a PC, capable of running PC titles.
