The live-action adaptation of One Piece on Netflix has achieved significant success, a result largely attributed to the direct intervention of creator Eiichiro Oda. Oda fought to prevent the production from deviating from his vision, ensuring the final product avoided becoming a failure.

Showrunner Steve Maeda revealed that Netflix executives initially proposed cutting the first season's budget and episode count in half. The studio also suggested narrative alterations, including changes to the introduction of Mihawk and the setting where Usopp appears.

Oda rejected these changes, stating, "This is not what I agreed to." He successfully pressured the company to revert to the original plan, securing a higher budget and sufficient episodes to properly adapt the story. This move was welcomed by the creative team, who feared the studio was prioritizing profitability over quality.

The mangaka's deep involvement ensured his work remained intact throughout the production process. By taking a firm stance against executive interference, Oda maintained control over the adaptation, ultimately securing the creative integrity of the series.
