Nintendo is set to release a modernized remake of the 1998 classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5. This title, originally the series' first 3D entry, has been rebuilt to feature high-fidelity visuals while maintaining its original narrative structure and linear, stage-based design.
The remake introduces significant mechanical updates, including a dual-analog control scheme and independent jump functionality mapped to the X button. Combat retains the signature Z-targeting system, now enhanced with motion-controlled aiming. Additionally, the iconic ocarina melodies can be performed via button inputs or real-time voice recognition through the console's microphone.
The editor noted that while the game features stunning 1080p, 60FPS visuals with detailed character models and environments, it remains a traditional, segmented experience rather than an open-world title. The reviewer praised the emotional impact of the updated cutscenes and voice acting, though they observed that the game's scale is smaller than recent entries like Breath of the Wild.
Despite these modern refinements, the core puzzle-solving and boss encounters remain faithful to the original 1998 design. The game includes a new 'Trajectory of Time' feature to help players track their progress. This remake serves as a polished, theatrical retelling of the classic adventure, catering to both long-time fans and newcomers.
