Key information
Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in active development at Ubisoft Montpellier, despite having been first announced on May 30, 2008. The project currently holds the record for the longest development cycle in gaming history, surpassing the 14 years and 44 days taken by Duke Nukem Forever.
According to reports from Origami Media, the game's design has undergone significant changes. Between 2019 and 2022, the title was developed as a massive multiplayer experience similar to Destiny. However, the current direction has shifted toward a single-player adventure that does not require a constant internet connection, though it may still offer cooperative play.
While specific gameplay details remain unconfirmed, sources suggest the combat system is inspired by the Spider-Man titles from Insomniac Games. It is currently unclear if previous 2017 concepts, such as seamless planetary travel without loading screens and realistic physical simulations, will be retained in the final release.
Approximately 250 staff members are reportedly working on the project. Despite this, the game's future is described as uncertain due to recent company-wide restructuring at Ubisoft, which has forced a reevaluation of ongoing investments and development priorities.
