Devolver Digital has officially announced Serious Sam: The Third Encounter, the latest entry in the arcade-style FPS franchise developed by Croteam. The publisher has already launched a Steam store page and released a teaser trailer for the title.
Unlike previous entries such as Serious Sam 3: BFE or Serious Sam 4, which served as prequels, this new installment continues the narrative directly from the ending of the 2002 release, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. Players will once again control Sam Stone as he infiltrates the heart of the alien army led by his nemesis, Mental, to conclude their long-standing conflict.
The game maintains the series' signature run-and-gun gameplay, requiring players to navigate vast, dense environments like alien landscapes and fortresses while battling thousands of enemies. The combat scale is expected to increase as players push toward the final confrontation. The title will feature familiar weapons like the minigun alongside new additions, and it will support both solo and cooperative play modes.
Visually, the game adopts a new style with a strong emphasis on toon-shaded graphics. Currently in the early stages of development, the title is confirmed for PC via Steam with no release date yet determined. While console versions remain unannounced, the developers have confirmed that the game will include full Japanese voice support.
