Key information

Eurogamer reports that Ubisoft's long-delayed title, Beyond Good & Evil 2, remains in the pre-production phase 18 years after its initial announcement. The project has officially surpassed the 14-year development record previously held by Duke Nukem Forever.

The game has shifted its design focus from a multiplayer-first project to a "solo-first" narrative experience. According to reports, the title will not require a mandatory online connection, though it will offer optional co-op gameplay. Combat mechanics are currently described as being reminiscent of Insomniac's Spider-Man series.

Development has been hindered by a failure to meet creative milestones, known as "gates." Frequent changes to core concepts and iterative improvements to systems like combat have repeatedly pushed back deadlines. Despite the project's long duration, it has yet to enter full production.

While the game has not reached full production, the project currently involves approximately 250 staff members at Ubisoft Montpellier. The team is reportedly aiming to transition the title into an alpha phase.
