EA Sports FC 27 has been assigned a PEGI 16 rating in Europe, marking a significant increase from the PEGI 3 rating the series previously maintained for years.
The rating adjustment stems from the inclusion of Ultimate Team features, specifically player packs. Under updated PEGI guidelines implemented for new submissions since June, games containing paid random items are now automatically classified as PEGI 16.
This policy shift also impacts other titles, with PEGI currently rerating existing digital games that feature paid random items throughout October. Similar adjustments have already been reported for games like Pokémon Go and Zenless Zone Zero, following a precedent set by Germany's USK in 2023.
These changes are limited to Europe, as the ESRB continues to rate the title E for Everyone in North America. The new rating serves as a parental warning rather than removing content, though enforcement practices may differ across various countries.
