Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive unofficial multiplayer functionality through a fan-made project titled NightCoop. This modification allows as many as eight players to explore Night City simultaneously, offering a significant expansion to the base game experience.

The mod synchronizes gameplay elements such as combat and stealth across all connected clients. Notably, the system handles complex mechanics like the Sandevistan time-slowing ability, ensuring that visual effects appear correctly for all participants. Dialogue and narrative decisions are managed through a voting system where the majority choice determines the outcome for the group.

NightCoop also features optional player-versus-player combat, which includes damage scaling to balance discrepancies between different character levels. Players can engage in cooperative heists, with the mod supporting specialized roles such as one player controlling drones or cameras while another executes a direct assault.

To utilize the mod, users must install the RED4ext library. The project is scheduled to enter an open beta phase on Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. EDT. This development follows CD Projekt Red's history of supporting modding communities, which includes the recent announcement of official console mod support for the game.
