Electronic Arts has officially announced significant organizational changes, including the closure of the legendary studio BioWare. This decision results in the immediate cancellation of the next Mass Effect title, which had been in early development by a small team.
The company stated that it is shifting its focus toward larger investments in fewer, major franchises. While BioWare is closing its Edmonton workspace, EA confirmed that other projects remain in progress, such as new entries in the Battlefield series and continued development for The Sims, with staff transitioning to a project titled Project Evergreen.
Regarding past performance, the publication noted that while it awarded Dragon Age Inquisition a 10/10 rating, EA reported that the title failed to meet its internal sales expectations.
Looking ahead, EA plans to prioritize other titles, including a new open-world American football game, the return of Fight Night, and upcoming projects from DICE and Respawn. Additionally, the company confirmed that development continues on a new Star Wars game and Marvel’s Iron Man.
