Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will return to the Apple App Store in Australia tomorrow. This development follows a long-standing legal dispute between Epic and Apple regarding platform access.
The Australian Federal Court recently ruled that Apple violated competition law. Consequently, starting in March 2027, Apple must permit third-party app stores on iOS and allow Australian users to download applications directly from developers.
Additional mandates effective in March 2027 include prohibiting Apple from requiring its own in-app purchase system or charging junk fees on alternative payment methods. Furthermore, Apple cannot prevent developers from directing users to external purchase options.
While the official compliance deadline is March 2027, the immediate return of Fortnite remains somewhat unclear. It is speculated that Epic Games may absorb associated costs until the regulatory changes take full effect, coinciding with the iPhone Duo launch.
