Released on October 4, 2026, the LEGO PlayStation set is a collaborative hobby product featuring a near-life-sized recreation of the original Sony game console. Comprising 1,911 pieces, the set is designed to evoke nostalgia for those who grew up with the iconic hardware.
The construction process involves a 250-page full-color instruction manual and over 20 bags of parts. The build includes functional mechanics such as an OPEN button to operate the CD-ROM drive lid and a POWER button that simulates an LED light effect. The set also incorporates miniature thematic elements from Gran Turismo and Ape Escape inside the console housing.
The reviewer noted that the assembly took approximately 7 hours to complete. While the process was described as immersive and engaging, the reviewer cautioned that incorrect placement of blocks can be difficult to rectify without the included brick separator tool. Additionally, the set includes spare parts to account for potential loss or damage of smaller components during assembly.
Reflecting on the experience, the reviewer found the project to be a rewarding way to reconnect with both LEGO building and memories of the original PlayStation era. The set is recommended for former players and adults who have not engaged with LEGO products for many years.
