Aspyr Media has announced that Shrek 2 Remastered is scheduled for release on November 10. The title serves as a modern port of the original 2004 film-based game, which was previously available on platforms including the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC.
The game functions as a 3D platformer featuring eleven levels based on the film. Players can switch between four characters during gameplay. This remastered version introduces online co-op for up to four players, expanding upon the original game's local-only multiplayer support.
Historical reception for the original title was mixed. Eurogamer described it as harmless and middle-of-the-road, while Nintendo World Report labeled it as bad. IGN awarded the original a 7, despite the reviewer noting they dreaded playing it. Additionally, a Gamespot review of the original PC version criticized its visuals, gameplay depth, and short duration.
The upcoming release is based on the PS2 version of the game. This decision has reportedly caused some discussion on Steam forums, as the original PC release featured different content compared to the console versions.
