AMD has officially announced that its FSR 4.1 upscaling technology is coming to Xbox Series X and S consoles. Microsoft engineers have collaborated closely with AMD to optimize this feature, which utilizes machine learning for image reconstruction to help developers balance visual quality and performance.
The technology aims to provide a more defined image without requiring the hardware to render at native resolutions. By executing games at a lower resolution and reconstructing the output, the system creates overhead that can be used to improve frame rates and overall visual fidelity.
While the announcement marks a significant development for the platform, specific details remain scarce. There is currently no concrete release date or a list of compatible titles. Some reports suggest that users may need to wait until 2027 to see the implementation, and the exact aspects of image improvement are not yet known.
Beyond the console integration, AMD is expanding FSR 4.1 to various PC hardware, including Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards and integrated graphics solutions. Furthermore, Microsoft and AMD are reportedly collaborating on future technologies, including FSR Diamond for Project Helix, as part of their ongoing efforts to advance gaming performance.
