Activision has officially announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will serve as the final installment in the current Modern Warfare series. The title is scheduled for release on October 23.
According to Activision marketing director Tyler Bahl, the game is intended to conclude the existing narrative arc while simultaneously initiating a new chapter for the broader franchise. Bahl noted that the company aims to innovate and address player demand for fresh experiences.
While the Modern Warfare series will reach its conclusion, Bahl suggested that certain characters and elements might persist in a reimagined form. Reports indicate that a new sub-series is planned, though specific details regarding developers or release timelines remain unconfirmed.
The game is slated for launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Switch 2. Although the current series is ending, the publisher has not ruled out a potential return to the Black Ops universe in the future.
