Key information

Activision has officially confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will serve as the final installment in the current Modern Warfare series. Marketing executive Tyler Bahl stated that this release aims to conclude the existing narrative arc while simultaneously preparing for a new chapter within the broader franchise.

The title is scheduled for release on October 23. It will be available across multiple platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and the Switch 2.

While the Modern Warfare storyline is reaching its conclusion, Bahl indicated that the transition does not necessarily mean a total departure from the franchise. Certain characters and elements may potentially persist in a reimagined form within future projects. Reports from GamingBolt suggest plans for a new sub-franchise, though specific details regarding developers or release timelines remain undisclosed.

Activision intends to use this shift to innovate and address player demand for new experiences. Although the company is moving away from the current Modern Warfare narrative, Bahl noted that a return to the Black Ops universe has not been ruled out as part of the franchise's future evolution.
