Developer Alliance Arts has officially canceled the public Steam demo for Drunken Goddess Reflux, which was originally scheduled for release on October 19. The studio cited concerns that generative AI tools could be used to replicate the game's visual style and gameplay mechanics, potentially leading to unauthorized copies before the official launch.
In place of the public demo, the developers will conduct closed online testing sessions for a limited number of participants. Access to these sessions requires players to adhere to strict guidelines regarding the sharing of images and gameplay streaming, as the studio currently lacks the infrastructure to enforce such restrictions in a public format.
The decision reflects broader industry debates regarding the role of generative AI and the protection of creative control. By limiting access, Alliance Arts aims to mitigate the risks associated with public exposure, even though this change means fewer players will be able to experience the anime-themed drinking game, which features a shot-glass variation of Russian roulette against a demon.
Interested participants are directed to the game's Discord server for further information, though specific access requirements remain unpublished. Developed by Alliance Arts and Who You, the title is still slated for a PC release on Steam on December 8, 2026.
