Key information
Valve has launched a beta program for Steam Achievement Sets, a new feature designed to help developers organize game goals into distinct, manageable groups. This initiative aims to simplify how players track their progress through various titles.
The system allows for the creation of seasonal or event-based achievement categories, each featuring a dedicated progress bar. Players earn profile trophies for finishing these groups, and their completion status remains secure even if developers introduce additional achievements to a set later on.
This update directly addresses common player frustrations regarding DLC, where new content often resets a game's completion status. According to Video Games Chronicle, 17 titles currently utilize this feature, including Portal 2, DREDGE, and Team Fortress 2.
Furthermore, developers can archive achievements or entire sets. This functionality is intended for goals that are no longer obtainable, such as those tied to discontinued online servers, ensuring they do not hinder a player's ability to achieve full completion.
