The League of Legends Worlds 2026 tournament saw its first elimination as FURIA defeated Cloud9 3-1 in the Play-In lower bracket. This result marks the end of the North American team's competitive year.
Although Cloud9 secured the opening game, FURIA dominated the subsequent three matches. Andrey “Ayu” Saraiva was named match MVP, concluding the series with an 18/6/19 KDA. This victory continues a trend for the Brazilian squad, which previously swept Cloud9 3-0 during the Americas Cup in March.
Following the defeat, Cloud9 support Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme labeled the team's performance as pathetic. Head coach Christian “IWillDominate” Rivera accepted full responsibility for the loss, citing his failure to prepare the roster for recovery and noting that the team's low baseline prevented them from competing against stronger opponents.
FURIA now prepares for a rematch against MVK Esports, having previously lost 0-3 to them. The winner of this upcoming best-of-five series will advance to face Karmine Corp for a spot in the Swiss Stage, while the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
