Independent developer Plotrick announced during the ID@Xbox showcase that their upcoming stealth adventure title, Rustown, is scheduled for release on June 30, 2027. The studio also debuted a new promotional trailer alongside the announcement.
The narrative follows a protagonist searching for their father, who went missing three years after contracting the 'Dumb Virus' during a pandemic. The father, suffering from memory loss and cognitive decline, sends a letter from Rustown, a lawless slum inhabited by ostracized infected individuals. The city is divided by rival gangs of infected and uninfected residents, forcing the player to navigate this dangerous environment to uncover the truth behind the disappearance.
Gameplay centers on stealth mechanics where players must observe their surroundings, time their movements, and hide to avoid detection. Success requires utilizing various tools and strategies to create opportunities. Throughout the journey, players will interact with diverse characters and factions, gathering clues and dialogue to piece together the city's history and the motivations of those living within it.
Plotrick stated that the development of Rustown was driven by a desire to provide a warm story for those weary of hatred. The game aims to explore the lives and connections of the people residing in this decaying urban setting.
