Key information

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has stated that the studio intends to continue producing physical retail editions of its titles for as long as it remains feasible. This commitment is conditional, as the company acknowledges that digital distribution currently offers greater profitability and lower costs.

The studio leadership views physical media as a vital component of the gaming hobby, noting that collecting games fosters an emotional bond between players and developers. Both Babieno and executive director Tymon Smektala emphasized their personal history with physical game collections as a motivation for this stance.

These comments were shared during discussions regarding the upcoming horror title Onyx: The Dark Grip. This project is currently planned as a third-party exclusive for the Switch 2, specifically designed for handheld play. The industry continues to debate the future of physical media, particularly as PlayStation has committed to ending disc production by 2028.

Despite the stated preference for physical releases, the studio clarified that this does not guarantee a boxed version for every future project. The availability of physical editions will ultimately depend on the company's capacity to manufacture them, balanced against the recognized business advantages of digital-only distribution.
