On October 21, 2026, reports emerged that a hacker identified as Gezine showcased access to the PlayStation 5 Debug Settings menu. This demonstration utilized firmware version 14.10, which currently stands as the latest system software for the console.
The exploit suggests a bypass of security measures implemented by Sony, which had previously addressed earlier vulnerabilities in the 14.00 update. Gezine noted that while this access is a significant milestone for the modding community, it does not equate to a full system jailbreak.
Gezine clarified that previous methods for extracting game executables are ineffective on the 14.xx firmware series. Achieving further progress may require identifying a new security flaw within the console's hypervisor, a critical layer of protection.
The discovery coincides with the upcoming November 19 release of GTA 6. Although unconfirmed, speculation suggests the title might mandate firmware 14.10. Meanwhile, Sony continues its HackerOne bounty program, recently awarding $50,000 for a separate, undisclosed vulnerability report.
