Key information
Jahvin, a developer at NoGlyph, has publicly accused the game A Game About Needle In A Haystack of stealing source code from their own project, Needle In A Haystack. The allegations were posted on the latter's Steam community page.
According to Jahvin, the accused title contains 13 classes with identical names and shares over half of its internal file structure. The developer also noted that the code includes identical error messages and references to features that do not exist in the infringing game, leading to the conclusion that the code was copied.
Community reaction to the claim has been largely cynical, with some users labeling the situation as poetic justice. This stems from the fact that Needle In A Haystack is itself a derivative work of Studio Bitdot's original title, Needle In A Haystack Simulator: 干し草の中の針.
The incident highlights broader industry concerns regarding the rapid cloning of viral game concepts. As the original needle-finding genre has already spawned at least 14 copycat titles, these disputes underscore the ongoing challenges developers face in protecting their intellectual property.
