Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which officially launches on October 23, 2026, includes a tribute to Vince Zampella in its credits. Zampella, a pivotal figure in the franchise's history, passed away in December 2025 at the age of 55 following a vehicle accident.
Zampella was instrumental in establishing the Call of Duty franchise to compete with Medal of Honor and defined the spectacular nature of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. After departing Infinity Ward over financial disputes following Modern Warfare 2, he co-founded Respawn Entertainment and later led Battlefield development at Electronic Arts, where he oversaw the successful Battlefield 6.
The game's credits also honor other significant contributors to the series, including Matt Canale, who worked on Call of Duty: Ghosts and mobile versions, and Preetam Raj Bordoloi, who contributed to ten titles including Black Ops 7. The involvement of Reiner Yang remains unconfirmed.
While the full game releases on October 23, 2026, the campaign is currently accessible through early access. Geoff Keighley confirmed the dedication to Zampella's memory on October 17, 2026.
