Key information
Following the popular success of the video game Hellraiser: Revival, author Clive Barker has expressed his intention to revitalize the franchise across multiple media formats. Barker, who created the original 1987 film based on his novella The Hellbound Heart, stated that he is highly satisfied with the work produced by developer Saber Interactive.
Barker revealed to Dread Central that the game's quality has inspired him to revisit the series with a fresh perspective. He intends to explore new creative directions, specifically noting that he has numerous ideas for future films and other media projects that could further expand the established mythology of the Cenobites.
The author's creative vision is currently influenced by his observations of religious art and the history of the Catholic Inquisition during a visit to the Vatican. He also cited classic gialli films such as Suspiria and Black Sunday as sources of inspiration for his potential upcoming projects.
This shift in creative control follows Barker's recovery of the American rights to his original novella and the first film's script in December 2021. He criticized the previous production system under the Weinstein brothers, which he claimed prioritized retaining rights over creative quality, and he now aims to develop future content according to his own ethical standards.
Hellraiser: Revival is currently available for players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles.
