Key information
Paramount Pictures has officially acquired the rights to adapt the Red Rising science fiction book series into a feature film. This project follows a previous, unsuccessful attempt by Universal to develop the franchise as a television series.
The story, penned by Pierce Brown, depicts a futuristic dystopia where humanity colonizes the solar system using a rigid class structure enforced by genetic experimentation. The narrative follows Darrow, a young miner on Mars who infiltrates the elite Gold caste to dismantle the system from within, drawing heavily on Roman mythology and themes of class struggle.
Francis Lawrence, known for his work on The Hunger Games and I Am Legend, is set to direct the adaptation of the first novel. Justin Rhodes, who collaborated with Lawrence on the upcoming Bioshock film, will serve as the screenwriter, while author Pierce Brown will act as an executive producer.
There are currently no confirmed release dates or casting details for the project. Lawrence is presently focused on his upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is scheduled for release on November 20.
