Key information
Japanese developer Recalloop Studio has launched a playable demo for its upcoming first-person organization simulator, THE BACKLOG. The full version of this title is currently scheduled for release in November 2026 on Steam.
The game takes place in a closed second-hand shop filled with over 5,000 scattered game titles and consoles. Players must pick up items, identify their labels, and organize them onto the correct shelves. The gameplay features 20 fictional consoles, each with unique physical formats for cartridges, discs, and boxes.
The experience supports online cooperative play for up to four people, allowing users to toss items to teammates and communicate via emotes or chat. Additionally, a social plaza accommodates up to 34 players for activities like fishing or arcade gaming. Players can also collect 20 monster figures using coins found during cleanup.
The demo allows users to experience the core mechanics of picking up and shelving items, including cooperative play. However, progress made in this trial version will not carry over to the final release. The full game will eventually include features like a software encyclopedia, speedrun leaderboards, and time-lapse recording.
