On October 19, 2026, Visual Arts announced that Jun Maeda, a creator at the game brand Key known for titles like CLANNAD and AIR, has been diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer.
Maeda, who currently works on the RPG Heaven Burns Red, has decided against aggressive medical treatment. Instead, he has chosen to focus on palliative care to preserve his strength and continue his creative work while hospitalized.
Regarding Heaven Burns Red, Maeda has finished writing the story up to the conclusion of Chapter 6 and completed the music for the first part. However, his ability to contribute to future content remains uncertain due to the progression of his illness.
Maeda has also adjusted plans for a new music project. Originally intended for long-term YouTube distribution, he now aims to complete and release the songs quickly. Visual Arts is accepting messages for the creator, though they request that fans do not send gifts.
