Key information
São Paulo-based studio Mad Mimic has unveiled its latest project, Super Tacky Astro Ranger (S.T.A.R.), a roguelike inspired by the Power Rangers franchise. Business developer Graziela Palermo de Oliveira describes the game as a humorous, vibrant experience that subverts the typically dark and serious tone of the roguelike genre.
Players control the Astro Ranger, a self-proclaimed hero tasked with rescuing the Blorb species from the clutches of the villainous Morg. The gameplay centers on strategic choice, allowing players to select from various weapons and combine unique skills called relics. Because the game is a roguelike, each run features randomized elements, and death forces the player to restart from the beginning.
Development began in April 2025, with a 16-person team composed of many AAA industry veterans. Mad Mimic plans to conclude development by December 2026, targeting a potential release in mid-2027. While the game is confirmed for Windows via Steam with Japanese language support, console versions are currently under consideration.
Mad Mimic is currently seeking publishing partners, particularly for the Asian markets of China, South Korea, and Japan. The studio, which has released six original titles including Dandy Ace, intends to focus on marketing support from potential partners while handling porting and development internally.
