Tokyo-based developer C#4R4CT3R has launched a free Steam demo for its psychological mystery adventure game, Rain98. Set in 1998 Tokyo, the title follows the protagonist's cohabitation with a mysterious girl named Reina Amamiya, who identifies herself as the Terror King.
The game blends narrative-driven novel segments with exploration and character interaction. Players must manage their finances through part-time work to support their daily life with Reina. The experience is underscored by Lo-Fi audio and detailed visuals designed to evoke a sense of unease within the setting.
This demo covers the story from the beginning through the first half of Chapter 2, offering approximately 3 hours of gameplay. It features expanded exploration areas in Shibuya compared to previous versions. The developer plans to update the demo to include the remainder of Chapter 2, with save data carrying over. The full game is expected to span 10 to 15 hours across seven chapters.
The project also announced that voice actress Mamiko Noto will portray a new character, Kyoko Yase. The demo supports multiple languages, including Japanese, English, Korean, French, German, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
