Lucasfilm has indicated that major industry publishers are not strictly necessary for the creation of high-quality Star Wars titles. According to Vice President Douglas Reilly, the franchise prioritizes experienced development teams and creative vision over the status of a top-five publisher.

The company maintains rigorous quality standards, preferring to collaborate with established studios that possess a proven track record. This approach aims to ensure that every release delivers an exceptional experience to players, rather than relying on the scale of a massive publishing partner.

This shift in strategy follows the conclusion of a 10-year exclusive agreement with EA in 2023. Lucasfilm is now open to working with a broader range of developers, including independent studios, as evidenced by the positive reception of the independently developed Star Wars Galactic Racer.

Current projects include the third entry in the Jedi series by Respawn Entertainment and Star Wars Eclipse from Quantic Dream. Development on the latter has reportedly slowed due to various challenges faced by the studio.
