Recent reports suggest that the manufacturing costs for the upcoming PlayStation 6 have risen significantly. According to information shared by the technology leaker KeplerL2 on NeoGAF, the current cost for just the RAM and storage components alone is estimated to exceed 680 dollars per unit.
This price surge is attributed to shifts in the global market, specifically the increased demand for memory and storage driven by artificial intelligence data centers. These costs were reportedly much lower when Sony initially finalized the console's design.
Beyond these specific parts, the final manufacturing price must account for the processor, cooling systems, power supply, chassis, and controller. Analysts like Joost van Dreunen of Aldora have warned that these financial pressures could push console prices above 1000 dollars and potentially delay the hardware launch until 2028.
While Manu Rosier from Newzoo suggests that basic models might stay under 999 dollars for commercial reasons, these figures remain unconfirmed estimates. Sony has not yet officially announced the final specifications, pricing, or release date for the system.
